According to AAIA's Global Aftermarket Trends: Mexico - The Continuing Evolution Under NAFTA, before 1996, there were less than 12 light vehicles available in Mexico. In 2001, there are more than 160 models available, mostly in the subcompact/compact category once dominated by the Beetle.
